Earning Incomes

In Maths we have been learning about Financial. This week we have talked about two main ways you can earn money by getting a wage or a salary. We also learned how they get paid and how much I will get paid once I work overtime.

Wages: Is a paid as a certain amount of money per hours worked.
[hours x money]

Salary: Is a fixed amount per year. This usually occurs in jobs where the hours are flexible, so you are paid for the work being done rather than the time taken to do it.
[salary ➗ week per year]

Overtime:  To avoid employees being forced to do unfair hours of work employers must pay their employees extra, depending on particular conditions and legal requirements. This will usually be for doing over a certain number of hours in a day. This extra pay is called overtime pay. It is calculated on the extra hours done.

Overtime pay is calculated by multiplying the hourly wage by a particular number.

Time and a half: multiply by the wager rate by 1.5.

Double time: multiply the wage rate by 2

Example:

Ordinary Time: 8 x $16.20 = $129.60
Overtime Pay: 3 x $16.20 x 1.5 = $72.90

Total pay: $129.60 + $72.90 = $202.50

Children of Blood and Bone Chapter 3

Chapter 3 - Amari

“I am afraid not, Your Highness. I saw it with my own eyes. Their magic was weak, but it was there.”
Skies…
What does this mean for us? What shall happen to the monarchy? Are the maji already planning an attack? Will we have any chance of fighting back?
Memories of Father before the Raid play in my head, a paranoid man with grinding teeth and forever graying hair. The man who forced Inan and me into the palace cellar, placing swords in our hands though we were far too young and weak to lift them.
The maji will come for you, he warned. The same words every time he forced us to spar. When they do, you must be prepared.

A message I take from this scene is that the royal family are afraid of maji's magic as they think that their magic are evil and they arescared to happend the raid again and for her father to go back he was before as he forced her to fight with Inan.

Children of Blood and Bone Chapter 2

L.O: For today in English I am learning to compare what happened in chapter 2 in real life.

Chapter 2 - Zélie
“It’s a diviner tax.” I grip the draped fabric of my pants, still haunted by the guard’s touch. “They came for Mama Agba, too. Probably hitting every home in Ilorin.”
Tzain presses his fists to his forehead as if he could smash through his own skull. He wants to believe that playing by the monarchy’s rules will keep us safe, but nothing can protect us when those rules are rooted in hate.
This could be compared to some countries that are corrupted and take to much money from the people, a government that takes away the freedom of the people. This also reminds me of what is happening in America as police brutality going there.

Street Art

In Art, we have been looking at street art around Christchurch. We have also been told to do a research about street art and choose a street art that captivates our eyes and makes us interested.

Ballerina
Painter: Owen Dippie
Date: 2014 Rise Festival
On the back of Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand
is where the ballerina painted on. This art was the final piece in Christchurch’s first street art festival.

Feedback: The reason I like this is because of how the black background
contrasts the blue dress of the ballerina and how the dress looks like its glowing.
From my point of view, the dress also looks like a blue flower

Technologies Then and Now

In Social Studies, we have thought 20 technologies that changed the way we do things before.

1. Communicating with people [Letters → email/text/social media]
2. Writing [writing in paper → devices]
3. Taking pictures [Camera →phone/tablet/laptop]
5. Going to places [old fashioned map → google maps]
6. Stalking someone [searching personal info on their social media]
7. searching information [Book → google]
8. Checking out recipes [Book → internet]
9. Able to watch and entertain yourself [ watching videos or games]
10. Music [Disc/records/tapes→internet]
11. Easier work [paperwork →using a device]
12. Play games  [board games →through devices]
13. Shopping [Shopping in malls →online]
14. Dating [communication→online/apps]
15. Invitations [Paper/letter → email/text]
16. Buying tickets [physically buy it→online]
17. Reading stories [books →online]
18. Reading news [paper news →online article]
19. Transportation [old cars/carriage →new cars]
20. Laptop [big, heavy & slower →small & faster]

The new technologies are really different before, for example how the phone then, it connects to wires and now it's handy and you can take it anywhere. The technologies right now have really changed our lives as it made it easier for us, however, it also bad as we cannot do any physical activities like before.

How does Chromebook uses electricity?

How does Chromebook use electricity?
- It has batteries and can be refilled by charging it.

Water Crisis || ESOL

Water Crisis

Water is a natural resource that the human needed to survive. Water is not only a liquid substance for us to drink and for us to stay hydrated but it can also be one of the resources that produce energy. However, since a long time ago the water is starting to change and it’s becoming a problem all over the world. Human is abusing and taking advantage of our natural resources. The water is polluting because human is just disposing of their garbage after activities and also the factory is dumping industrial waste in the sea but here are some reasons why water pollution is bad for us and the environment and why should we reconsider our action.

Firstly, because the water is becoming polluted the other renewable sources that also needed water is not being sustained. Living things in the water are another example of resources that are affected by pollution. These living things in the sea are in danger because as the water is polluted, the nitrogen also increased in which means the nutrients that fish are getting is starting to reduce as the surface is cover in plankton and at the same time it also increases that lead to an algal bloom. This also results for the living creatures have a higher chance of death as they can’t get enough oxygen and nutrients.

As human dumped waste materials in the sea or ocean all animals are in danger. If you think that the only animals that are in danger are the fishes and other sea life animal, well you are wrong. The birds are also in danger because they often get food resources from the sea. Birds like cormorant eat fishes but since the water is filled with waste material they mistook the plastic as a food, this causes them to die. Every year millions of sea birds die from plastic as plastic takes so long to break up into pieces.

Another reason is that polluted water is harmful to the environment and to humans, even though humans is one of the reason, we are affected by the issue since all organisms depend on water sources. The world is covered in water but 96.5% of body water contained saltwater in which people cannot drink and this also means 3.5% of it are freshwater. If this pollution continues to occur, the living organisms and humans are in danger as it reduces the supply of fresh water. Because of the water pollution, humans’ health is at risk as the water is contaminated.

Even though water pollution is a long term problem, we still need to take action to save water and solve this issue. We can be part of an organization that is cleaning the water and we can also help this by reducing the amount of water we used and not dumping rubbish everywhere. This may take a long time but we cannot just avoid this problem since all living things on the Earth are affected by it. We should also think about the next generation that can be affected as this issue enlarge and we should solve before it’s too late.
